Using Printed Photo Books to Contribute to a Cause
Many photographers believe that there are a number of causes that are worthwhile. Be it nature photographers with the environment, photographers who have an emotional response to cancer, HIV or other physical ailments, or portrait photographers who want to be able to create a broader understanding of a community, these photographers who want to be able to contribute to fundraising for a cause will find that printed photo books to raise awareness.
Think of using photo books as an extension of gallery exhibits to raise awareness:
(source)Sinclair’s photo exhibit, “Facing HIV: Portraits of Heartache, Healing and Hope,” is on display at Karma Salon and Gallery through Feb. 29. The 24 black-and-white photos convey a message that statistics can’t, Sinclair said.
One image shows the ravages of AIDS in the thin, pained face of a woman sitting in a wheelchair, her hands folded as if in prayer. Its title, In Memorium, hits the viewer with the reality of a disease that still has no cure. The woman portrayed in the photo died late last year.
Everyone has something to contribute - the ability to have a positive impact on the world around them. Photographers who see things differently and sometimes more clearly will find that they can bring images to the foreground of people’s thought - and have an impact on the way others see the situation. Printed photo books are an ideal tool for putting the message out.
