The Benefit of Photo books for Designers and Photographers

One might wonder what the benefits of photo books are for designers and photographers, well, if you are in a creative and/or design-based business, you know that having a portfolio is your key to getting clients.

Showing off your past work is sometimes the only way to get new jobs, and having a top notch portfolio can often be the difference between that job going to you or one of your competitors. There is no more elegant way to display your work than in the form of a hardcover photo book, and putting your together will take a little bit of work, but it will be very well worth it.

The key to any successful portfolio is making sure that you have artistic, high-quality photos of your work, and thanks to the advent of digital photography, it’s not just the designers who have a chance to manipulate and share their best work. Photographers too are able to sit behind the computer monitor, pull up a shot, open an editing program, grab a pen tablet and make changes.

As a designer it cannot be stressed enough that before, during and after every job, you need to make sure that you are getting photographs that show your progress, your process, and your finished product and more and more. Why settle for just printing out a great shot when you can do something more with it? Why settle for a basic portfolio that goes from one image to another when you can block out a page with multiple images, add text, incorporate design elements and show off your work in the same way the masters of photography do – with a coffee table book.

Printed photo books give photographers and designers a bit of an edge: they open up doors to looking at your work in a completely different way. And, when you see things differently, you begin to capture the world a little differently as well: when you see your work laid out for you, you’ll find that it’s easier to see which changes you want to make – what will make you better at what you do.

Of course, the books can also be used to show your work to gallery owners, prospective clients, family and friends – so why would you want to use anything else, the benefit of photo books should be pretty obvious.
