Why a Traditional Publishing House Isn’t Ideal for Photographers

When you are committed to starting to publish your photography and are thinking about taking a closer look at printed photo books as an option, one of the things that you’re going to want to think about is control. Especially when you are pitching your first photo book, you’re going to find that there are a number of challenges if you just head to a traditional publishing house.

Self publishing is an ideal option for photographers because it gives them control over the creative process of printed photo books, and helps to ensure that they are able to get their books out there. Simply put, traditional publishing houses are going to take fewer risks; by self-publishing your work, you’ll find that you are able to use the images that you think are right for the project, you can order copies as needed and, in general you can take full control of the process.

By looking at self-publishing when you are getting ready to design printed photo books - even just at the point where you first have the idea - you’re going to find that the process of creating photo books is more rewarding, amd that you will enjoy it far more.
